Center for Community Health Leadership Releases Best Practices Guide for Connecting Healthcare Communities Free Guide Provides Best Practices and Practical Advice from Community Healthcare Advocates, Physicians and Technology Leaders
RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Center for Community Health Leadership™, an organization sponsored by Misys Healthcare Systems to facilitate the development of health information pathways by building connected communities, announced today the availability of “Best Practices for Community Health Information Exchange.” A free, 10-chapter comprehensive handbook written by members of the Center’s Advisory Board and healthcare technology experts, the guide provides real-world advice, guidance and recommendations for community healthcare organizations considering a connected healthcare community project.
Transforming healthcare through community health information exchange (HIE) requires strong leadership and the shared experiences of those who have gone before. Written by a team of experts who have practical experience in all phases of a connected community healthcare project, from theory to reality, the Center’s “Best Practices for Community Health Information Exchange” guide is a key contribution by the Center toward that successful revolution.
“The challenges of building a connected healthcare community are manifold and encompass technological, philosophical and financial challenges,” said Michael Fleming, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., a family physician in Shreveport (LA), featured author in the guide, and a member of the Center Advisory Board. “More than anything, communities considering this type of project need guidance on where to start and how to put key building blocks in place to ensure success. This guide will address the care and business needs of the community, therefore significantly increasing the chances for success.”
The guide evolved from a White Paper, “Top Ten Success Factors for Community HIE” (available on the Center’s web site), which provided general principles for the creation of a community-based data exchange, with each success factor representing a pivotal point on the path to achieving community-wide information exchange. Each chapter of “Best Practices Community Health Information Exchange” expands on those principles, from designing a project roadmap and ensuring “buy-in” from key stakeholders to practical advice once the project moves into the implementation and roll-out phase and measuring return on investment.
“When the Center was established, one of its first initiatives was to create a thought leadership series focused on providing practical guidance to those interested in building sustainable community health information exchanges,” said Leigh Burchell, director of the Center for Community Health Leadership. “Our guiding principle for this series is that a ‘win-win’ within a connected community is not only attainable, but can show a measurable return as long as it is built to address and accommodate the views of diverse audiences. We have written this guide to provide community healthcare representatives with a clear path to navigating the process and satisfying those audiences.”
The “Best Practices for Connecting Healthcare Communities” is now available for free download on the Center web site at www.MisysCenter.com/Best+Practices.htm.
