Mr. Dorenfest has over 30 years of experience working with healthcare systems in the United States and other countries to help them accomplish their improvement objectives. The focus of his work has been to help healthcare organizations accomplish the following specific objectives:
•Help large healthcare systems and hospitals to improve the delivery of healthcare in their community (city, state, or country)
•Help large healthcare systems and hospitals to better use information technology to support their improvement activities
•Help large healthcare systems and hospitals to improve the quality of the healthcare services they provide
•Help large healthcare systems and hospitals to reduce the cost of providing healthcare services
Mr. Dorenfest is one of the world’s foremost experts in healthcare systems improvement. He has consulted with governments and individual healthcare organizations in the USA, France, England, Australia, and Canada. Mr. Dorenfest has consulted with over 300 hospitals on a worldwide basis to help them strategize, select and improve information systems. He has also worked with over 200 Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) suppliers to help them improve their understanding of the HIT market, shape new product strategies, and better serve their healthcare customers. He has had more than fifteen books published on the State of the Art and Future Potential of Computer Technology to Improve Healthcare Operations. He has written over 100 articles about the subject, spoken frequently at healthcare industry meetings throughout the world, and has been quoted extensively on the subject of using computer technology to reduce costs and improve quality of care in the healthcare industry.
As president and CEO of Sheldon I. Dorenfest & Associates, Ltd. from 1976 to 2004, Mr. Dorenfest personally directed the research involved in compiling The Dorenfest Integrated Healthcare Delivery System (IHDS+) DATABASE™ and its predecessor The Dorenfest 3000+ DATABASE™ both of which profile the I.T. programs of almost every hospital in the United States. In 2004 the Dorenfest Database was sold to HIMSS Analytics and, now, Mr. Dorenfest serves as a member of the board of directors of the HIMSS organization. He recently created, in conjunction with the HIMSS Foundation, The Dorenfest Institute For Health Information Technology Research and Education to provide free data to universities, students, and government agencies around the world to help improve healthcare throughout the world.
Prior to forming Sheldon I. Dorenfest & Associates, Ltd., he was the founder, president, and chief executive officer of Compucare, a healthcare software company and director of corporate business consulting services for Abbott Laboratories, a major pharmaceutical company.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES TO MR. DORENFEST’S VISIT

Through knowledge exchange, cooperation and collaboration with leaders of the healthcare industry in China, Mr. Dorenfest desires to assist China in attaining its health industry improvement objectives. Mr. Dorenfest will be visiting China between May 9 and May 31, 2005 to learn about China, its healthcare system, how it presently operates, and the improvements that are planned and to share his knowledge with the leaders of the Chinese healthcare system.
He will meet with the leaders of the healthcare industry in universities, national and local governments, hospitals, clinics, and research institutes. This will be the first phase of his efforts to define a collaboration and knowledge exchange program between Chinese and US experts to help improve the way healthcare is delivered in both countries.
Some specific goals of this visit are as follows:
1.Build a greater understanding of the Chinese healthcare system
2.Conduct knowledge exchange discussions to define some key opportunities for further knowledge exchange and collaboration between leaders of the healthcare industry in China and the US.
