The European Union is poised to accelerate national e-health initiatives and lay the groundwork for a pan-European network, according to Renata Bushko, a health care futurist and director of the Future of Health Technology Institute, speaking last month at the Institute’s annual summit in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Having recently chaired the “Global Trends and Perspectives” committee at the 2006 Meeting of European Health Ministers in Malaga, Spain, Bushko said there was a “fresh and unmistakable commitment” to build a Europeanwide health network. “Each country is presenting a roadmap to national e-health which will lead to united and interoperable pan-European health services,” said Bushko. “With less fragmented and more unified European national healthcare systems, e-health has a great chance of faster successes in reducing human suffering and saving lives.” |
