Siemens, Kameda partner to sell EHRs in Japan

Siemens Targets Japan for I.T.
(October 01, 2007) Siemens Medical Solutions has launched a joint venture to develop and sell electronic health records systems to hospitals in Japan.

The Malvern, Pa.-based vendor has teamed with Tokyo-based Kameda Healthinformatics Institute Inc. to form Siemens Kameda Healthcare I.T. Systems K.K. Siemens has two-thirds ownership of the venture with Kameda Healthinformatics holding the rest.

Since 1999, Kameda Healthinformatics has sold KAI, a commercialized version of an EHR developed in 1995 at Kameda Medical Center.  The fifth-largest EHR vendor in Japan, Kameda Healthinformatics has 40 employees and 28 hospital clients.

The joint venture will further develop KAI and market it. Shinji Tanaka, president of Kameda Healthinformatics, also will serve as president of Siemens Kameda Healthcare I.T. Systems. Janet Dillione, president of the Health Services information technology division at Siemens, will serve as chair of the joint venture. Toshitada Kameda, chair of Kameda Healthinformatics, will be vice chair.
